No wrk 2day? w8 a min, wt do U mn?

I was just informed in a text message that there is no work for me today at the on-site place. A text message. Am I allowed to take professional directives via such a normally frivolous means of communication? It felt like getting a note in crayon.

Is this what we do now? Is the day coming when I'll be able to call in sick with an emoticon? Will I troll a selection of little yellow smileys trying to find the one who looks most like he's displaying my symptoms? If I'm not really sick, but just wanting to spend the day away from work, will the emoticon betray me with a wink?

I suppose I should be happy that he didn't type "No wrk 2day CUL8R." Which still would have been preferable to "U R fired."

I'm no good with text messages. I refuse to abbreviate, and still choose more or less the same words I would choose were I typing or speaking. I can recall spending a really long time typing out "scintillating" at some point last summer.

And don't even get me started on emoticons...

A little blurb of chocolate is waiting for you on your desk when you do return. I think you will like it.

Hope you are well, Mr. T.

P.S. Will you write my novel for me, please?

I'm the same. I need to type the word out and use punctuation. I have a very nice phone though. It is pink and rather pretty.

Have a relaxing day.

What is a blurb of chocolate - I am so hoping that it is not just the wrapper.

ps - say no to GT. You already have too much to do.

GT: There's a author's quote from the back of a book jacket of chocolate on my desk? Hmmm. As to writing your novel for you, I'm afraid that would be a no, at least until Caroline starts writing mine.

Caroline: Sometimes I break contractions apart, but I make no other concessions to the art of the text message. I am not surprised to hear that your phone is pink. That seems to be in character for you. Mine is black, like my heart...

Oh, I don't know what I meant. I just meant "a little sweetness," like a blurb on the back of a book. I just didn't want you expecting a huge amount of loverly chocolate waiting for you -- whenever it is you do return here to this awful landfill.

Guess I have to write this novel myself. Thanks anyway.

You just got yourself started on emoticons, if I recall..!

Hope you had a fantabulous duvet day - I was off sick only last week - but the difference was I really did feel lousy and so never got the full benefit of doing nothing.

And you've had two days! Lucky boy.

I used to be like that with text messages, but I've started appreviating some of the time...but nothing that extreme.

I'm the same way with text messaging. It seems juvenile to me, I'm afraid. Maybe I'm getting old. %|
