Now we are six (months)

This blog turns six months old tomorrow. In honor of that, and to reward myself for all of the hard work I've been doing lately, I've bought myself a little something. It should be here tomorrow, and if it is, I'll take a couple of phone snaps and post them.

Not that you'll really be all that excited, Blogreader. I won't be loaning it to you or anything. And no: in spite of the accompanying image, I did not purchase an infant or fetus.

I wanted to do something special to mark the half year thing, but so far I cannot think of anything. The new site design was going to be a part of that, but that's over, and I just finished a fiction contest and everything. Fresh out of big ideas.

So I'll have to make do with small ones. Tomorrow, I'll revisit the idea behind my starting to blog in the first place and try to gauge its relative success in that area.

Six months really isn't a very long time. As a prison sentence, it would be considered incredibly light. Half of a single year. Tick, tock, poof. Short-time con.

* * * * *

So far, I've kept my promise of 500 words a day. This was especially tough yesterday as I was working from shortly after I woke up until 11:15 pm. But I forced myself to do it anyway, and I'm glad I did. I would have felt ridiculous skipping what was only the third day of having a daily target.

I know this blog hasn't been much of a treat lately. The contest took a lot of my whimsy away for a while, and there's always work to blame, but I think it may also have something to do with the fact that I am now having nightly dreams in which it is simply nice outside. Other things happen, too, but mostly in the dreams I feel the sun warming the skin on my face as I move about in daylight without a jacket on. Sometimes someone else will appear in these dreams and we talk about how warm it is, how temperate, how pleasant.

I point my finger at these dreams.

I think I have many more anecdotes to share here, and I'm likely to renew my blogging contract for another six months.

I'm sometimes plagued by really boring dreams too. I especially hate the ones when I'm working on something and I dream about that - I always feel like invoicing for the extra time.

Once I woke my boyfriend up wailing as if I was having a terrible nightmare. He wasn't very impressed when he brought me out of it and I admitted I was dreaming about not being able to find my purse.

Maybe it's something to do with using up all your creativity when you're awake?

Or I suppose we might just need to get out more...

My blog was six months old 2 days ago. I didn't celebrate. I am a bad blogmother.
I look forward to the photos tomorrow.

Julia: Although mundane, these dreams come every year at about this time, and are accompanied by a great sadness when I awaken to find it is still winter. I think these dreams are my fantasies.

Sorry to hear about your dream, though. Did you ever find the purse?

Caroline: Those of us who do not have novels coming out have to mark the most absurd occasions in order to feel important and like we have accomplished something with our lives.

Next month I will have been blogging for a year. I will, of course,as a recently published awfur, make nothing of the event and will mark it with a quiet cup of tea and a chocolate biscuit.

Whoooooooooo hooooooooooooo!!!!!!!

Minx: Congratulations in advance on your anniversary. We have neither tea nor biscuits (nor ginger squirrels) here in America, so I'll have to make due with a cup of coffee and another cup of coffee.

I did not have the energy or the gumption to mark my six months of blogging. I am also not recently pubished or soon to be published.

Hmmm. How big of a loser does that make me?

I'm feeling great over here, Mr. T, really, really great. Thanks.

GT: Glad I could help.

Oh and by the way, Mr. T, congrats on 6 months.

You have a helluva blog here.

You set me to thinking -- always dangerous, about how old my blog is. I knew I had started it in June, but didn't remember the exact date.

I checked. It was June 13th, and I have not marked any of its anniversaries with tea, chocolate, or even a bare mention in a post.

I'm so ashamed.

As for you, I hope you are more than "likely" to renew your contract with yourself and the rest of us.

GT: Thanks for the compliment. Weird how some people allow comments where such things can be said, huh?

SilverN: Hope both our dreams come true soon.

SSN: Thanks much, and very nice to see you again.

HinSF: Maybe I enjoy celebrating trivial things more than most. It seems most bloggers let these things go. Maybe I'll lie low and save up my enthusiasm for the actual year mark, if I make it that long.
