Veronica Grace

My grandmother passed away this morning. It was a bit unexpected. She had been doing really well at her rehabilitation, but she fell and things apparently spun out of control pretty quickly.

Her name was Veronica Grace Mary Mazurek, née Lehmann, by way of Jacobsen. She outlived two husbands and had five children. She was born in 1928, the same year Mickey Mouse debuted, within a month of Noam Chomsky, Philip K. Dick, and Bo Diddley.

She was a pretty cool lady, warm and quietly funny. I'll tell you about her sometime.

I never got to make her the lasagna I promised her when I saw her last.

I'll be back soon.

Hey Maht, my sincere condolences to you.

Grandmothers are wonderful. They spoil us when we're little, they always have such interesting stories to tell about their life in the 'old days', and they always manage to make us feel special.

Take this time to reflect on the good memories. Make that lasagna now, in her honour.

Take care

My condolences, Mr. T. I'm sure she loved her tall, funny grandson a great deal, even without the lasagna.

Maht, I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother. It sounds as if she wasn't around long enough, but made really good use of the years she had.

If incense is believed to waft to heaven, surely the aroma of lasagna can, too. Make it anyway. She'll know it's for her.

Maybe a song to go with the lasagna - when you're ready.

Maht,

Very sorry to hear about your grandmother. This is hard.

But don't worry about the lasagna. Imagine if you'd done everything you'd ever said you were going to do for her - you'd have been finished! The fact that you had an outstanding thing means you were still ongoing with her and that is lovely.

When my grandmother died I was worried about something she thought that wasn't true, a misunderstanding that hadn't been cleared up - and my mother said, well, she understands now and it's all right.

You take care of yourself.

Maht, I'm so so sorry. Both of my grandmothers kind of died the same way...it is hard to say good-bye to people we love.

But they leave their footprints on our hearts, I think, and so they always stay alive inside of us.

Feel better soon.
