(17 x 5 x 5 x 2 x 2 x 2) - 1

My word count for this blog since NaNoWriMo began is just a shade under 4,000 words, not counting titles or stuff in the comment section.

After many delays, and a shameful amount of procrastination (the new site design comes to mind), I finally made some headway on my novel this evening. When the dust settled, I had the number shown in the handy-dandy counter I added to the sidebar to make me feel bad about my lack of progress. Hooray! I'm 7,907 words behind schedule!

But it's a start.

I added a little excerpt to my profile on the NaNoWriMo site, if anybody wants to check it out. I'm not sure how similar in tone the little chunk I selected is when compared with everything else, but it tells you a little about a couple of the characters. The plot is centered on a man making a list of 12 New Year's resolutions and his efforts to make them stick.

I think I'm going to end up working on both novels throughout November. Using each of them to take breaks from the other while still being productive. My word count will only be tallied for this one, though.

A question for anyone else working on NaNoWriMo: Am I supposed to put each day's work into a separate file and upload them separately? Or do I just keep adding to a single file and post it daily for word counting, which would require the system to zero out my tally and count all over again each time. I don't want to screw up my count the next time I post, is why I'm asking. So if anyone knows, please drop me a line and help me out. There doesn't seem to be anything about this on the page where you actually upload things.

So the ball is rolling. If I can keep writing 3,500 words a day, I'll be caught up in just a few days, so I guess that's the goal for now. And the 7,907 is due to my post hitting on Nov. 7th, which is technically only a couple hours old, and this was intended as my Nov. 6th progress.

Stupid time.

Keep one .txt file for uploading and add the new words into it each time you want to get your word count updated. It counts only exactly what words you upload, it's not smart enough to add stuff together.
