Independence Day photo post

I think I'm mostly gonna let the pictures tell the story. Plenty more on the Flickr page. Click to embiggen.

Craig and I were tied at one vote apiece as to whether these clouds looked like cotton candy or an impending apocalypse. Weirdly, I was the one pulling for cotton candy.

Unfortunately, my camera is not so good at getting night shots. This is the best one of the fireworks on my street last night.

I'm going for impending Apocalypse too I'm afraid, but maybe that's cos I've been addicted to Heroes since I started watching it on Saturday. I also really like the fireworks even if they are blurry, cos I just really like Fireworks. I thought the mattress was really funny too, but maybe cos I was reading it as UNfested for ages... duh.

'Ferret Bites' - yeah, mine used to as well!

Great photos (I'm on your side with the cotton candy) but you know what I liked best? The word 'embiggen'. Thank you for that.

A picture speaks how many words...?
Yeah, definitely apocalyptic those clouds, no question.

Those clouds...we don't get clouds like that out here in LA, the epicenter of the apocalypse, so clearly those are merely cotton candy.

Sigh. You really represented what being in Chicago is like. I felt like I took a mini trip home through your photos.

Love the ferret shot, that's just so random to see a ferret at a picnic.

Looks like it was a wonderful time... very good photos!! I LOVE the boat shot. I also like the light through the trees in the park.

heh nice pictures!

i like the ferrets :D

I live near disneyland so I see the fireworks every night at 9 30 :o but the fourth of july ones are spectacular. And so loud we have to scream to hear each other.

I was going to say how pleased I was with "embiggen", but someone's beaten me to it (hello, Zinnia Cyclamen, you seem very intelligent with exceedingly good taste).

Anyway, hello Maht my friend. x

Rats - forgot to say, the shot with the boat is really very beautiful.

Yep, I like embiggen too. And I'd be torn between cotton candy and the apocalypse. Mind you apocalypse is sort of bigger, isn't it? Couldn't you ask your friend to be more specific? I like the bolt tying two wires best.

Ver: I read the mattress out loud as we walked by it, and then decided to photograph it. Craig said "I can't believe you even had to finish reading it to get your camera." It does look like UNfested, though. There is an extra line.

Minx: My guess is that the can attracts the ferret into biting it instead of people or other animals. Either that, or they've packaged the actual bites of many ferrets, and the guy can unleash them on the unsuspecting without having to wake his charges from their slumber.

Zinnia: I cannot claim credit for "embiggen." It was a fake word used on an episode of "The Simpsons." I always really liked it, too, though, and I tend to use it whenever I post pics on this here blog.

AbVan: Yup, this is a 10,000-word post.

Liz: That's the nicest comment I could imagine for these pictures: that they reminded another Chicagoan of Chicago. Thank you for that.

SilverN: Possibly weirder, the duffel bag o'ferrets was actually on a table at an outdoor cafe.

Scarlett, CS, me: Thankya.

Anna: I like the boat one as well. The magical light just before dusk sure helped me out with that one.

Shameless: I completely forgot. Will try to get my votes in before the deadline today.

Mike: I'll check it out. Thanks.

Sundry: Thanks. I always love your images as well.
