Of course, this would set the bar pretty high for next year...

A pair of glasses worn by John Lennon during the Revolver era are up for auction through the end of the month. They were given by Lennon to a Japanese man who served as the Beatles' translator during a visit. Bids are secret, of course, but the glasses are expected to fetch between 1.5 and 2 million dollars.

Now, many of you know that I recently had a birthday, and that most of you did not get me a present. I just want to say that these glasses would make an excellent gift. I would take them over to Lenscrafters and get my prescription put in them. Whole thing should take about an hour, and then I could be walking around in my special Lennon glasses.

The current owner of the specs pushed out the lenses when Lennon was killed in 1980, in keeping with a Japanese tradition. I don't know if the original lenses are part of the deal.

I can understand that some of you may be reluctant to get into a bidding war. I suppose, as an alternative, I could sell you a pair of my glasses for whatever the final price turns out to be.

Actually, I'll go one better. I will sell any of you a pair of my eyeglasses (your choice of about three pairs, not including sunglasses) for a flat sum of one million dollars (note to Brit Blogreaders: this is only 500,000 pounds!). That way, you even get something for your trouble while still saving possibly as much as a million bucks. I would be willing to fashion some sort of certificate asserting the authenticity of my glasses as well. It's a win/win.

Let me know if you're interested. I look forward to doing business with you.

Would love to help but have just spent my last two mill on Elvis's last sandwich. What a bargain - not only an item belonging to a famous person but it will also keep me from starving now that I've spent all the money.

I'm sorry, I'm having terribly trouble reading this post... I can't seem to see properly. Could you type bigger next time, please.

And I was just thinking I could do with a new pair of glasses, but then I remembered I wear contact lenses.

MT,

Thanks for the insight.
I see your point of view.
But look here, if you saw mine, you could glimpse a different perspective. The vision of you in spectacles would be a sight I could not behold, and peer pressure is something I watch out for.

Eyes sorry eye can't help you.

Bob Dylan's hearing aid anyone?

This is what has become of you, eh, Mang Tickles? Hmmm.

Isn't there something of Yoko Ono's that would be a little cheaper?

GT,

Everything of Yoko Ono's is cheaper... for good reason.

I LOVE that photo. Too funny.

Well, if I wasn't working tomorrow I could offer to try to buy one of his original illustrations...they are having an art show of his work here in South Jersey, in Cape May.

Minx: I completely understand. Lennon had his glasses, Elvis had his sandwiches. Money well spent, in my opinion.

AbVan: Perhaps you should consider buy a pair of special Mon Topples official glasses. They might help your reading, if I weren't myopic, that is.

Ver: Just think of them as very hard contact lenses that you wear at a slight distance from your eye.

Scarlett: I see what you did there. One more joke, and the whole thing would have become cornea.

Jon: Noooo! So much cool celebrity gear for sale and I'll never get rich by disposing of my old glasses!

GT: Yeah, I have resorted to begging for money on the internet. And Scarlett is right that most of Yoko's stuff would be a lot cheaper, but somehow less special.

SilverN: I love his illustrations. Someday I hope to have a few pieces of my own.

Vesper: I appreciate the sentiment, but I'm afraid I don't take checks.

Buh Dup: Yeah, it's done and posted, somewhat in response to your comment.
