Phoctober the twenty-ninth
It's kind of hard to get a post in by midnight when I don't get home from rehearsal until 11:52 pm. So, I have to cheat the time stamp for the second day in a row. Still, after this post, I have only two Phoctober installments to complete, and then the pressure to post by a certain time will subside. Or it would, if I hadn't signed up for NaBloPoMo as well. Phoctober posts take me a lot longer than a normal post to get together, though, what with all the linking and uploading and what-not.
Wow. Rambly. Looks like the coffee I consumed at the onset of rehearsal has finally kicked in, just when I no longer need it. Hooray!

On Sunday, we got a look at the place where the performances will be for the upcoming show. It was disheartening. The room is very small, and the audience will likely be on the same level as we are, which complicates the sightlines and the blocking somewhat. When one of us sits in a chair, for instance, it may be that we are not visible to everyone in the room.
The lobby is one of the gaudiest things I have ever seen. Every available surface is festooned with memorabilia from comedy of all types. I vacillate between finding it kind of sweet and kind of creepy. There's a level on which I don't understand people who find all comedy funny, just in the same way I am confused by people who find all music worthwhile.
Even weirder was finding out that all of the stuff they have was originally part of a single private collection, kept by one of the owners of the place in his home until the place opened. My first thought was how pleased his spouse must have been to have this stuff out of the house.
Anyway, I grabbed a couple of shots of the walls and such for today's Phoctober. And I'm hitting "publish" at 12:20, which is better than yesterday...

Other Phoctobering:
All Phoctober posts from this site.
Absolute Vanilla on open doorways.
Kyklops with an assortment of random Japan.
Taffiny and wet pebbles.
Matthew on paths and mist and mountains.
It isn't too late to join the fun. Just do a photo post, mention Phoctober, and come and tell me about it in the comments.

Great shots. Love all that old stuff from Charlie Chaplin and Laurel and Hardy to Mork and Mindy and the Shrek gingerbread man - but yep, if all that was in my house I think I might have some clutter issues! At least the guy found a place to house it and it's a good and certainly pretty comprehensive collection to all things comedy!
Ok firstly, what is BLOCKING? You are the 2nd person who has used this term and I have this vague feeling that I should know what it is. Secondly, are you trying to say that you didn't find Mork & Mindy hysterically funny? You don't have to answer that one, but I am glad that you put a representation of Laurel up. I was in a bar on Saturday and the waiter who thought he was the KING of cool reminded me of Laurel. I just wanted him to scratch the hair on the top of his head.
Sorry the space is less than ideal. Hopefully adjustments can be (easily/torturously) made to better accommodate the audience.
Quite a lot of stuff there, sort of cool, I would certainly consider it creepy if it was in my home. All those eyes, and scary happy expressions. Sweet? Didn't consider that.
Pray tell, what is this twitter I see to the left?
Since you haven't responded to my duck comment farther down your blog, I have taken matters into my own hands (along with crackers, I could leave a crumb trail with). I hope you do not find this irksome, as it is not my intention to behave badly. Oh well, I guess you wont be posting ransom.
Excellent shots, Maht. You've got to love Gene Wilder (I loved him in "Young Frankenstein".)and Charlie Chaplin. :)
P.S.: I apologize for not keeping up with phoctober. I've been a bit under the weather.
A "Mork and Mindy" lunch pail I can live without. Fred Flintstone rules! So does Steven Wright ("I woke up this morning and found that someone had stolen everything in my apartment and replaced it with exact duplicates...")!
I got rhythm and I got Seoul.
AbVan: Yeah, these pictures provide only the tiniest glimpse of the sheer volume of memorabilia they had on display. It's hard to imagine it not taking up an entire house.
Ver: Blocking is the movement an actor does on stage. And did your Laurel doppleganger blink funnily as well?
Taffiny: Twitter is a tool for more up-to-the-minute ideas or thoughts. I can update it easily from my cell phone. I'm giving it a whirl, and thought you guys might like to see it.
Jefferson: Thanks, and don't worry a bit about not Phoctobering. It's a completely voluntary exercise. Hope we'll see you again next year, or possibly tomorrow?
Kyklops: Weirdly, I had thought of Steven Wright just the night before as I tried to insert my car key into the back door of my apartment building...
